Who is a vascular surgeon?
Vascular surgeons are highly trained specialists in the treatment of vascular system diseases. Your body has two set of blood vessels: ARTERIES, which carry oxygen rich blood from the heart to all organs and peripheries, and VEINS, which carry blood back to the heart. They are the pipes of your circulatory system. A Vascular Surgeon treats diseases related to the blood vessel system, except the heart and the brain.

Do Vascular Surgeons treat all diseases by operations?
No, a vascular surgeon assesses your problems in detail as he is a superspecialist in his field. He analyses them, diagnoses them with help of clinical knowledge and certain tests, then ensures that patients with vascular health problems know all their options, and discusses them in detail. In short, vascular surgeons can perform surgery, both open and minimally invasive (endovascular- by angiography) but they see many patients who do not need surgery and are treated by conservative means and lifestyle modifications. Many vascular problems can be treated with medications only.
